How is a Partial Hip Replacement Performed?<\/b><\/h2>\n

This procedure is essentially the first part of a total hip replacement. The inpatient procedure is performed under regional or general anesthesia. A CONA specialist:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Begins surgery. <\/i><\/b>Soft tissues are delicately retraced so the hip joint can be visualized.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Prepares the joint.<\/i><\/b> Damaged bone is carefully removed. The femur is prepared for implants.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Creates a new hip.<\/i><\/b> A perfectly sized stem is bonded to the hallow part of the femur. A plastic ball is placed and secured on the stem. A physical examination is performed to ensure the components move smoothly. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Dissolvable sutures close deep and superficial tissue layers. Skin staples close the skin. A sterile dressing is placed over the surgical site. A comfortable hip immobilizer holds the hip in anatomical position to reduce pain and discomfort. Total procedure time is 1-2 hours.<\/span><\/p>\n
