### Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome Overview

Ulnar tunnel syndrome is compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist. Symptoms present
in the little and ring fingers and make it difficult to pinch and grip. A Carolina
Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Associates’ (CONA) wrist specialist’s customized treatment
plan quickly reduces symptoms.

## **Symptoms & Causes**

Ulnar tunnel syndrome symptoms include:

 * Difficulty coordinating the fingers
 * Numbness
 * Weakness

Common ulnar tunnel syndrome causes are:

 * Chronic pressure
 * Ganglion cyst
 * Trauma

## **Common Treatments:**

Nonsurgical treatment options are usually recommended first. After a thorough evaluation,
a CONA wrist specialist may recommend:

 * A wrist brace or splint
 * Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications
 * Slowing down or stopping symptom-producing activities

Surgery may be recommended if a cyst causes ulnar tunnel syndrome. A CONA wrist
specialist carefully excises the cyst and symptoms are dramatically reduced.
